Parent FAQs

General

Student Expedition Extras (SEE) is a comprehensive travel ecosystem that supports schools, teachers, and parents with the logistics of day, residential, and international school trips.

Yes. There's no hidden charges or fees to use our site or resources. Our goal is, and has always been, to make trip planning simpler and more efficient, without adding costs or unnecessary headaches!

SEE is designed primarily for schools, teachers and parents, however, our resources can benefit so many more. From support staff to trip providers, airlines to tourism boards and everyone in between!

As it stands our website is predominantly geared towards helping UAE residents, but if you're based anywhere else in the world and need support, feel free to reach out. Our contact us form is available to help all those that need guidance!

For any and all enquiries, our dedicated team is available via our 'contact us' page.

Head over and say hi, we're happy to help and always enjoy connecting with new people.

School Trips

Each school has its own approach to vetting trip providers, and the level of scrutiny can vary depending on internal policies and available resources. Some schools carry out all checks in-house, while others choose to outsource this process to companies who assess areas like safety, safeguarding, insurance, and educational value.

Regardless of the approach, trip providers should only be introduced to families once they’ve met the school’s specific criteria. So, while SEE doesn’t carry out due diligence itself, the provider you’re seeing will have gone through the school’s preferred vetting process.

School trips are designed to be enriching, safe and enjoyable. Your child might experience a little anxiety or find some activities less enjoyable than expected. On the other hand, they may come back full of stories, having made great memories with their peers and eager to travel again – which is very common!

Most school trips have dedicated leaders or reps who handle the logistics, while teachers focus on student welfare. Between them, they’ve often been on numerous trips, so your child will be in good hands.

We recommend attending all meetings so you can understand the full process – from sign-up to emergency procedures. The more informed you are, the more reassured you’ll feel, which in turn helps your child feel more confident too.

Some parents prefer to travel and stay near their child, either in a different city or even in a neighbouring country, for peace of mind. Others may choose to stay home or travel elsewhere themselves.

Generally, there’s no requirement for families to be in a specific location, as long as they’re available to be contacted by the school if needed during the trip. It's always a good idea to check with the school to ensure they’re comfortable with your plans.

Visas

When we realised there wasn’t a single source of visa information tailored to international travel for school aged students, we set out to create one. We spoke with embassy representatives, reviewed official guidelines, and built comprehensive destination pages for each country.

These pages include up-to-date visa requirements, step-by-step instructions, and supporting links, all designed to make the process as clear and stress-free as possible.

By providing one centralised reference, schools, parents, and providers can all access the same information, helping to simplify what is often a complex part of trip planning.

Yes, but only for partner schools!

Yes, we strongly recommend that parents apply for their child’s visa directly with the relevant embassy, consulate, or online portal.

While there are visa concierge services available, we know from our experience that no third-party service can guarantee appointment availability or approval timelines. In some cases, they may even suggest shortcuts that could complicate the process.

Having worked in this space for years, we can confidently say that applying directly with the official channels is the most reliable and straightforward approach. That’s why we’ve built this resource, so everyone can easily navigate the process and apply confidently on their own.

Kit Lists

Any destination-specific kit list should ideally come from the trip provider or school (if the trip is organised in-house).

However, we’ve put together a general kit list covering the most popular items commonly needed for various trip categories, so you’ll have a solid starting point for packing.

For each item, we feature three options: Essential, Recommended, and Premium, to cater to different budgets, preferences, and student needs.

Our team has personally used many of these products and we all have our favourites from our own expedition days (even if, for some of us, that feels like a while ago!)
